【 明 報 專 訊 】 Let's face it

「 面 對 現 實 吧 。 」 提 醒 別 人 認 清 及 接 受 事 實 。

例 ︰ It would be very nice to buy a new car. But, let's face it, we simply can't afford to do it.

買 一 輛 新 車 是 不 錯 的 主 意 ， 但 我 們 該 面 對 買 不 起 的 事 實 。

例 ︰ Let's face it, Sarah isn't the greatest ballet dancer in the world.

讓 我 們 面 對 現 實 吧 ， 莎 拉 不 是 世 上 最 好 的 芭 蕾 舞 蹈 員 。

Look out ﹗

「 小 心 ！ 」 用 來 發 出 警 告 ， 告 訴 別 人 有 危 險 或 會 危 害 別 人 。 亦 可 說 watch out 。

例 ︰ Look out! There's a car coming.

小 心 ！ 有 車 開 了 過 來 。

例 ︰ Watch out or you'll trip over the edge of the carpet!

小 心 ， 不 然 你 會 給 地 氈 邊 緣 絆 倒 ！

發 出 警 告 時 用 look out for 或 watch out for 將 具 體 情  告 訴 別 人 。

例 ︰ Watch out for that dog. He's not on a lead!

當 心 那 條 狗 ！ 沒 人 牽  牠 ！

So far so good

表 示 「 到 現 在 為 止 還 不 錯 」 ， 指 一 項 工 作 或 活 動 至 今 順 利 進 行 。

例 ︰ "How are things going?" "So far so good, but we haven't reached the really difficult stage yet."

「 事 情 進 展 如 何 ？ 」 「 至 今 一 切 順 利 ， 但 我 們 還 沒 到 真 正 艱 難 的 階 段 。 」

Sooner or later

表 示 「 遲 早 」 ， 說 明 某 事 將 來 一 定 發 生 。

例 ︰ You are going to have to tell her sooner or later, so why not tell her now?

你 遲 早 都 要 告 訴 她 ， 何 不 現 在 就 說 呢 ？
